The Minichamps Diecast Company was initially a 1990 German company known as Paul's Model Art GmbH. One of the very first diecast replicas produced by this company was the scale model of the German Touring Car Champion 1990, the Audi V8 driven by driver Hans-Joachim Stuck. Produced in 1990 as well, the replica became enormously popular and acted the impetus for the Minichamps Diecast Company to expand their range of diecast models. By 1991, they began producing both classic and contemporary cars in the 1:43 scale.
Towards 1992, manufacturers of the automobile industry started to take notice of these replicas and began place huge orders with the Minichamps Diecast Company for diecast models of their cars lineup. It was also during this year that the first F1 car was produced by the Minichamps Diecast Company, the Benetton B 192 used by Michael Schumacher to win the Belgian GP. The success of Michael Schumacher also catapulted the prestige of Minichamps Diecast among the formula one racing fans. With this astounding success, Minichamps Diecast grew by leaps and bounds. Today, the company also produces F1 diecast cars in the 1:18 scale and 1:64 scale apart from 1:43 scale.
Sawing the demand for car's accessories, Minichamps Diecast in 1995, started to produce figures, helmets, key chains and many others. By 1996, BMW had also requested Minichamps Diecast to start producing replicas of BMW bikes. The first 1/24 scale diecast motorbike created by Minichamps Diecast was the BMW R1100 RS. This astute decision by Minichamps Diecast also enhanced the company image among the circle of motorcycle fans. Today, Minichamps Diecast is one of the largest manufacturers of diecast models around the world. In fact, for the 1:43 scale, the Minichamps Diecast Company can be classified as the largest manufacturer in the world.
Their reputation is well deserved as their models are reasonable priced and highly detailed. Their McLaren F1 GTR model is one of the most highly sought after diecast collectible in the market. In fact it had been said that Minichamps Diecast are one of the most detailed 1:43 scale models around with a price that is one third of the nearest competitors with comparative quality. Their current range is also extensive covering almost every cars produced under the sun ranging from classic Fords and F1 cars to the latest Audis on the market.
Diecast collectors have a wide diversity of models to select from the eight genres of Minichamps diecast models. They comprises of Formula 1, Military Vehicles, Motorcycles, Racing Cars, Street Cars and Trucks & Buses. In addition to the 1:43 scale, Minichamps Diecast also introduced a small line of 1:64 scale models called the “Micro Champs”. This line was however later discontinued. With the recent authorization by Roll Royce, Minichamps Diecast is also venturing into the luxury car genre with the production of the 1:43 scale model of the Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe that is going to sell for around $70USD each. With this latest addition of genre, diecast collectors have now almost a complete range of collectible genres from the Minichamps Diecast Company to choose from.
