Learn the gentle art of stretching for health!

Yoga poses range from the easily accessible to those which require the greatest flexibility but those who are less flexible should not be afraid to start a regular yoga practice. Yoga poses are designed to increase the flexibility of all who practice regularly and it is important that the student works with the pace of the body and does not attempt yoga poses which are far too advanced at that time.

Depending on the style of yoga that you are considering taking up, many of the postures will be similar but certain styles tend to focus on specific postures or sequences that are to be practiced regularly until success is achieved. There should never be any pain experienced when yoga poses are practiced, each movement should be focussed upon and the practitioner needs to feel the stretch and become a part of it mentally.

Yoga poses work in conjunction with the breath and yoga focuses heavily on teaching breathing techniques which are wholly important to the student’s progression and health. Breathing works with the yoga poses by helping the student to feel the stretch and to then use the breath to release the tension from within the muscles. This ability to be able to release muscular tension is important and aids the progression throughout all of the postures.

Postures are designed not just for stretching and for increasing flexibility; they also work at strengthening the muscles, especially important for the back and the abdomen. Yoga means ‘union’ and this union is mind, body and spirit, all of the postures compliment each other by way of forward, backwards and spinal twists.  Balance is the key word when considering taking up any style of yoga and this means emotional and physical balance so that the body is strong, supple and emotionally sound.

For those who practice regularly, you will find that incredible benefits are achievable when careful considerations to all of the many yoga poses are sanctioned.
