VOLLEYBALL COMPETITION RULES

THE GAME:
  • Teams of players hitting the ball across a net, strung half way down a squash court. Net 2.44m from the floor.
  • The object of the game is to ground the ball in opponents court or force opponents into error. Each team is allowed three touches before returning the ball over the net. Players must not hit the ball consecutively, but are allowed to play the ball after a block.
  • The ball MUST NOT BE THROWN OR HELD but must be hit cleanly with the open hand.

SERVICE:

  • The server stands in the back right hand corner within an imaginary one metre square and has one serve which must go over the net and not touch the walls on the full. Team members take it in turns to serve; rotating one place clockwise when service is won.
  • The ceiling, side walls and backwalls are OUT.

SCORING:

  • The first 4 games are scored to 25 points. However, if the score reaches 24 all, a team must win by 2 points e.g. 26-24, 27-25 etc.
  • The 5th game is scored to 15. If the score reaches 14 all, the team that wins the next point wins
  • If a receiving team wins a point, they get the serve and also a point. Teams change ends after each game.
Players may not have any part of their body OVER OR UNDER the net and may NOT TOUCH THE NET OR INTERFERE WITH ANOTHER PLAYER. (E.g. you may not reach over the net to spike a ball or intercept) The ball must only make contact with the open hand or forearm. Body contact elsewhere constitutes a foul.

CONTROL OF THE MATCH:

  • Each week one or more teams are nominated to score either before or after their match. Teams who are on duty and do not score will have points deducted.

FORFIETS:

  • If a team is more than 10 minutes late - forfeit first game.
  • If a team is more than 20 minutes late - forfeit second game.
  • More than 30 minutes late - the match is forfeited.
  • Any team failing to turn up may be omitted from this competition. Teams failing to do DUTY may also be omitted.
  • Teams substituting players registered with another team may forfeit points for that match.
