Balsa is a type of hardwood ideal for making RC models of all shapes and sizes. An extremely light weight material, Balsa wood is extremely strong. RC balsa kits and almost Ready-to-Run models of various vehicles are extremely popular among hobbyists especially the do-it-yourself RC balsa kits that are available in many sizes and difficulty levels.

RC balsa models have been in the market ever since the art of building scaled down models originated. In fact, the earlier versions of model planes were made from this wood, in the 1950s. The best thing about an RC balsa model is that it gives an amazing finish to the model. Models built with other materials like plastic and fiberglass are also available but any RC models enthusiast will tell you that the models made from Balsa wood are the best in terms of both look and performance.

So if you were to go to your nearest RC models store, you would find two types of RC balsa kits –Die-cut and Laser-cut. Laser-cut kits are a little more expensive than die-cuts, but if you want the perfect looking RC balsa model, as well as a better tolerance towards crashes, then these are definitely the one for you. You will find that a die-cut RC balsa kit may need some more cutting and sanding, but if you know what you are doing, then even these kits may give the same results as a more precise Laser-cut balsa kit.

So what do you get when you open an RC balsa kit? The average kit normally comes loaded with all required parts like outer body parts, internal RC machinery, transmitters, etc. All you will actually have to do is to get your hands on some tools and use them. RC airplanes have the most abundant supply of RC Balsa kits, something you will notice when you step into a store. Your first attempt might get simplified due to a small set of instructions. Instructions and spare parts are almost mandatory with the kit but even with all this convenience, it may take you a rather long time to assemble your model.

Of course, picking up the construction of RC Balsa wood models as a hobby should only be considered if you have the time and patience to put the whole thing together. Not only is it tedious, it is painfully long and detailed at times and to save more hair on your head, we would suggest you take up something more quick, like knitting. But despite this statutory warning, if you are still rushing through this article to run to the RC model store, then this is the hobby for you. Just set your tool kit right and get ready to run with your RC Balsa kit.
