RC helicopters are the most versatile of all the airborne radio control models. Not only are they the most flexible, RC helicopters are also the hardest to fly due to a complex background behind their simple looking structure. Despite all the skills required to fly one, RC helicopters are still one of the most interesting airborne radio controlled gadgets available in the market today.

Radio Control saw its birth in 1898 when Nicola Tesla wowed audiences with a boat controlled by radio signals. The boat listened to the demands of the crowds, making turns how they wanted it to. Since that day, RC toys and models have been the most prized possessions for young and old alike. In the 1960s, manufacturers began producing these models on a large scale mainly due to the falling costs of raw material and new technology. Since then, the industry has never looked back, making new advancements in terms of models, their capabilities and their similarity to the real deal.

RC helicopters pose a challenge for the hobbyist, something that is entirely different from any other RC model. Not only does it require you to master the ability to fly straight, using a rotor, it also requires the ability to hover. Complete attention and a good amount of skill can ensure that you can have fun with your RC helicopter that no other model can provide.

Did you read right? Yes, you did! RC helicopters are far more advanced than even RC jets in terms of their capabilities. Not only can you perform loops and rolls like an RC jet, you can do stall-turns, pirouettes, fly upside-down while hovering a few inches above the ground, things you can not imagine with real-life helicopters or RC airplanes. In terms of speed, advanced models can do about 40-50 mph at 100-300 ft - no easy task.

Controlling an RC helicopter requires a lot more effort than an average RC airplane. The tail-rotor, specially, is a difficult and sensitive part to control. It requires the deftest of touches to make major changes in the flight pattern. While the throttle determines the speed of the rotor, it is not the only thing that makes the helicopter move.

Pitching the RC helicopter is what makes it move forward, backwards or to either sides. Pitching is, again, a delicate process that requires a great deal of skill to move the helicopter accurately. Controlling the main rotor and the tail rotor simultaneously enables you to fly around and while you have certain preset modes wherein the tail rotor automatically adjusts itself according to other factors, to ease flying, the real experience is of flying without any automated aids.
