Hi, my name is Vicki, and I started painting about 2 years ago. I had always been interested in trying to paint, though felt I had nothing to inspire me. Then a few years ago my husband & I decided to live in Africa for a while. We travelled around many countries throughout Africa for about 6 months & this is when I knew that I really wanted to paint.

The rich colours & the people of Africa inspired me so much & it is from Africa most of my paintings come. They are like post cards in my head, there are so many images I have stored there. We have also spent many, many months in the Arab countries & India, & it was the women of these countries that inspired me to paint also.

The first time I saw an elegant woman walking down a dirt track, with an earthen pot held high upon her head & dressed in the most colourful sarong, I knew I had to paint this image. The women in the traditional black burka also fascinate me. I love to watch them shopping in the souq, with mysterious black eyes & faces hidden from the world.

I started painting in acrylics then progressed to oil paintings, as I feel the oils give the vivid colours I wish to capture, especially on the African & Indian women. I hope you enjoy my paintings, as much as I have enjoyed painting them.
