Why is writing the favorite Hobby of Millions!

Writing has been one of the most common hobbies for almost every soul who loves to write. However, even if you indulge in scribbling every now and then, do you think that is enough to take up writing as a hobby? For starters, why not go back to its origins? To define ‘writing’ as a term, it means to write and preserve a text upon a medium.

Writing has its origin in the ancient human civilizations. However, when exactly it came into a standard form has not yet been determined for sure by historians. The Mesopotamian civilization has been pinpointed by many as the first user of paper. This statement has been supported by interesting archaeological evidences that are almost five thousand years old.

However, ‘paper’ was not really in the present form that we see it in. Letter writing was practiced by the Mesopotamians by the help of a series of pictures and signs called Pictograms. These symbols were carved on specially made tablets of clay. These clay tablets were used to record information regarding stellar positions, trade and commerce, current affairs and also literature and art.

The other ancient civilization that shares pride of place among the list of the first users of paper was Sumeria. They were in the habit of using a unique system called Cuneiform up to the 1st century AD. Just like the Mesopotamians, this system was also based on signs scribbled upon clay tablets. The only exception was that the carvings were made by the help of a blunt reed or ‘cuneiform’, meaning “wedge shaped”. These picture-scripts were later developed into more advanced forms and assumed the abstract variations of different languages. The Old Persian script is an instance of such evolution.

But as you can well guess from the current status of world languages, the process of evolution has never ceased. The result is the multiple varieties of existing alphabets and letters. Now you can adopt so many ways of self-expression! Of them essay writing can be an excellent hobby enhancing your creativity and writing skills. Next time if you take up writing as your favorite hobby, you are sure to witness a sea change in your thoughts and expression.
