Learn how to draw fast, quickly and easily and save a great deal of time when trying to capture the essence of your subject. It can quite often be beneficial to draw fast as well as accurately although some new artists tend to spend a long time pouring over any one drawing, laboriously trying to capture all of the details. This may be fine on some occasions but at other times, when sketching animals or children for example, it is essential to draw fast so as to be able to capture the most important qualities of the picture in a minimal amount of time.

Most times you do not have to reproduce the picture exactly, that is why artists have their own creative interpretation, it is more important to not be too rigid in style. Forget any rules you may have learned, learn to draw fast and freehand and let any stilted style go.  Capturing the emotions or characteristics of the scene is the most important part of the drawing, emotions or characteristics will add new dimensions to your work. Try to really feel the subject because you will be able to translate the true feel of the picture much easier.

Attempt to do some quick sketches and see how they turn out. Set yourself a time limit. It is worth considering just how long it takes you to usually draw a picture using your usual painstaking careful methods and then reduce the time if you redraw the picture again. Keep doing this until you have cut the time down dramatically.

Draw fast and then review your work and notice the areas where you are still being over diligent. You may be extremely surprised as to how much you will improve, and your style will also develop.

Quick drawing can instil some fun elements back into your artistic endeavours. Making each drawing fun will help you to look forward to the times when you can pick up a pencil and subsequently by having more practice; you will become a better, more accurate artist within a much quicker time span. Although you may be worried that you will lose accuracy, regular practice however, will ensure that you can draw fast and still be exact.
