Dog training tricks are a sure shot way of ensuring that your basic dog training is a success. There are 12 basic commands, but let us begin with the starting commands that your dog needs to learn before conquering all the 12. Dog training tricks for each command can greatly reduce the time and strain on both you as well as your dog. While consistency and rewards are a great way to ensure the dog training tricks work, do not expect fast results, and most importantly never get violent.
Let us begin with the first basic command of ‘Heel’. You need a training session of about 20 minutes every day. Put your dog on a leash and take him out for a walk, initially he will attempt to pull on the leash and walk away from you. Do not yank on the leash or scold him, just stop and stand firm. Eventually he will realize that pulling will get him nowhere. Just remember to praise your dog throughout the exercise, as they thrive on it. Now keep your dog to the left and begin walking. Give the leash a tug and speak out the command, ‘heel’. Keep the dog on a short leash, and every time the dog is walking beside you praise him with a ‘Good boy’. Try one direction at a time, and do not unnecessarily pull on his leash, and eventually he will associate the ‘heel’ command with this action.
Another basic command is ‘Sit’, this is one of the easiest trick to teach puppies. Get your puppy’s attention, put him on a leash if required, and give the command to sit. Follow it up by gently pushing his rear down to a sitting position, and immediately praise him for it. Follow this routine repeatedly and your puppy should pick it up in a day or two. You can stop pushing his rear down after the first few times. This dog training trick is quite easy and can be practiced anywhere, including inside the house.
The main trick involved with teaching basic commands is perseverance, persistence and patience. Once you have the 3 P’s in the bag, you can teach your dog any trick in the book, and maybe invent some new ones. Basic dog training involves an entire list of dog training tricks which will help you teach your puppy the right responses to basic commands. Once you are through with basic commands, some extra tricks can be taught to your puppy as well. Some of these dog training tricks can be quite entertaining, and these include ‘Sit and Shake hands’, ‘Dance’ (a hot favorite), ‘Find’, ‘Carry’ and many others.
Read on to learn about some of these extra tricks. The ‘Sit and Shake hands’ trick is quite simple if your dog already knows the ‘Sit’ command. So first get the dog to sit, and then hold one of his paws in one hand, after you give your ‘Shake’ command. Feed him a treat with the other hand, while still holding his paw, and also praise him for being such a good dog. Repeat this exercise, like with all other tricks and he will soon ‘Shake’ on command.
The ‘Dance’ trick is perfect for hyper-active dogs, and generally smaller dogs, as they can balance themselves better. Just hold up the dog with its front paws and say ‘Dance’, hold him up for a few seconds and then let him go, followed with tons of praise. Once again, keep repeating, and soon he will be dancing to your tunes.
There is a whole repository of dog training tricks out there, and thorough research, through the internet, books from the library and other options are a great way to learn them. Praising your dog consistently will keep his morale up, and avoid harsh punishments, beatings and other forms of abuse, as these will surely backfire. A scared dog will be too fuddled to obey you, so don’t go down that road.
Keep up the praise and a loving relationship with your dog and watch how he easily picks up all your dog training tricks.
