Aichmomancy is a form of divination in which sharp, pointed objects are used to show patterns which are then interpreted by the practitioner. Derived from Greek words aikhme, which means spearhead, and manteia, meaning prophecy, this type of divination is quite similar to Acultomancy. To practice this form of divination you will first require some sharp objects like pins, knives, nails, wooden pieces, which have been sharpened or even needles. After this, you are then required to drop the chosen pointed object onto a flat surface and then find the patterns the object made on the surface, and then interpret them.

During ancient times, before objects like knives, pins and needles came into existence, readers made use of spearheads. These spearheads were dropped on sand, and the patterns thus created were then deciphered. Later on in the middle ages pins became more popular. In a variation of aichmomancy, the reader can use seven pins and a flat surface like a table covered with cloth. The pins are then thrown on the table and patterns created by them are identified and interpreted. This variation is popularly known as Acutomancy. The basic patterns had standard interpretations, and  these patterns formed by the pointed objects when they fell on the flat surface decided the fortune of the enquirer. Some of the interpretations include, if the pins fell parallel to each other the prophecy was that money would come to the enquirer in some way, formation of a triangle promised good health while formation of a square informed of resistance coming their way. The pins forming an L shape confirmed the honesty of the person, and an inverted V shape prophesized rudeness.

There are other forms of aichmomancy, which though not usually used for the purpose of divination, are still practiced by many, and some are just derivations from the word. It is highly recommended that you do not take any of these up. They include aichomania, where the person likes to be pierced with sharp objects, aichmophobia, here the person has great fear of sharp objects and aichmorhabdophobia where the person suffering with fear that he might be killed with a sharp object or tool.
