GPS Drawing is a technological sport or hobby, which basically involves creating pieces of art using lines recorded during your journey. Confused? To put it simply, technocrats use GPS devices, which are readily available anywhere, record their journey in the device’s memory, then download it onto a PC and voila you have your GPS Drawing.  GPS Drawing, which is used as a massive tool, combines the science and principles of various technologies and acts like flying, driving, walking etc. One of the recent-most entrants used to develop artwork in a larger scale, drawing is the basis of all techniques used in this sport.

The pioneers in the field of GPS Drawing are Hugh Pryor and Jeremy Wood. They did an interesting project wherein they drew a fish and spiders, which cover more than 13 miles area. Another interesting pioneer project done by them was the ‘IF’ drawing. This project was titled ‘What is the world’s biggest “IF”?’ They drew ‘I’ from Iffley in Oxford to Southampton and ‘F’ from Ifield road in London to Iford in Sussex. This was based on an unbelievable area span of 537 km. It was on part of Hugh Pryor, who functioned as the visual mechanic and developed a software named GPSograph. This software was instrumental for the work of 3D representation and animation work of the tracks designed for GPS.

The material used for developing the final physical and digital representation of GPS Drawing is the raw data collected from a GPS or Global Position System. As we move on a journey, we are connected to the Global Position System and data is collected via satellites orbiting the earth, at an altitude of over 20,000 kilometers. It is by the use of this raw data, which is gathered as a combined result of your movements and behaviour over the course of your journey, that you will be able to understand your journey, analyze various aspects of the changes along the course of the journey and also gain various inferences on the way. These inferences will help you to modulate various aspects of our journey, helping you create the perfect masterpiece.
