Model display cases are a must for every collector. Be it matchboxes, or large scale models, model display cases don’t just make your collection look good; they also give it protection from elements such as dirt, moisture and sunlight. Choosing the right model display case for your collection requires careful thought and consideration.

Depending on the type of collection, you will need to decide the size and type of model display case. For example, for collectible antique dolls you will need doll display cases, whereas for classic car collectibles, a display case might not be a feasible idea. There are many types of display cases available in the market, including, Acrylic display cases, Lucite display cases, Glass display cases, Plexiglass display cases and many others.

But these are not the only distinctions, model display cases can also be categorized according to the collectibles they display. These include doll display cases, Pez display cases, Typewriter Tins display cases, Matchbox display cases and many others.

In case you do not wish to buy readymade model display cases, building one by yourself is also a good way of getting exactly what you want. Building from scratch however should be left to the experts, so if you are a novice model display case builder, you can always buy model display case kits. These come with handy instructions, which are easy to understand, and all the parts just need to be assembled.

Whichever option you choose, you will need to make sure that the model display case keeps your collection safe from dust, sunlight and moisture, as these cause extensive damage to most items. In case you are still not sure, it is best to do some research on model display cases. Now this does not involve exhaustive studying, all you need to do is go out to a few model display case stores, either in the real world, or on the Internet.

Browse through their collection, understand the purpose of each type of display case, and the maintenance involved with each type. Talk to the store assistants, as they will be able to give you experienced advice on what works best for a particular collectible. After you have spoken to some experts you will be able to make a more informed decision for your collection. For most collectors it is best to go for readymade model display cases, in fact some collectors even collect vintage model display cases.
