When you find yourself getting really into your child’s toy robot, you know it's time to get yourself a kit and build one of your own. Like many of the most popular hobbies, the reason that robots have a cult following is that they are such fun! You can interact with your kids and pursue your hobby at the same time. Building and working with a robot is a family-friendly hobby that suits a wide age range and can get you new friends too.

Building your own robot from a kit is the most accessible way to begin. There are many different construction kits available, usually made from plastic or aluminium. Your robot can be built to perform various functions, such as fire-fighting, combat, manoeuvring, escaping from mazes, playing games and other challenges. To see these skills in action, you can get involved in robot competitions, where your robot can compete against other robots to perform a set task. These competitions are organised through schools or research centres for robot builders to pit their robotic skills against one another and see who comes out top robot.

This is a growing hobby with lots of exciting developments continually appearing. You may just want to spend time sharing your robot with your kids, or you may be interested in creating new improved models to use in competitions. Whatever your interest in robots as a hobby, stay with us to find out more as we look forward to your input on this wonderful pastime.
