Fanfiction is simply fiction written by fans about popular fictional worlds and the characters in them. It is done purely for enjoyment, for the fun of seeing your favourite fictional heroes and villains have extended adventures, the only limit being the writer's imagination. The inspiration can be from any media source, such as television, film or novels. Fanfiction is usually unconnected with the original creator and as such is non-profit making.
It is often seen written as all one word, i.e. fan fiction or more usually fanfic.
The hobby of fanfiction is continually expanding and adapting to take in all the varied sources of inspiration. When you have exhausted all the material from your favourite fantasy world, why not use your imagination to extend the adventure further? You can also share your passion for this hobby with others and create whole new scenarios.
